Hello, and welcome to dumpstermonkey.com! Glad to have you
here, even if to bump the ole' hit counter up. Using my all powerful powers of
deduction I will determine why you are here. Odds are that you are one of the members of this little
cyberspace community, or that you have been referred here by one of them. However, in
the off chance that you have simply stumbled onto the site, I would like to welcome you
and explain a bit about DM.
% whois dumpstermonkey.com
Dumpstermonkey is a small personal server intended to
benefit its members by providing a learning enviroment. Perhaps someday this site will
be much more, but for now, it will remain in this humble form, probably lacking any substantial content.
(Or at least as far as the website is concerned.) Dumpstermonkey is not a public access
server, so please do not ask for an account unless you personally know one of the users.
The server is currently centered in Santa Barbara, CA, meaning that power could go out at
any time, along with this server.

Finally (don't want to lose your interest at only the 1st
page!), a short explanation of the navagation system on DM. If you are not unix savvy,
you may not quite understand what goes where, and waste more time then you wanted to here! So here's a
quick rundown of what is what from the navigation bar at the top of the screen:
- cd $HOME = Home (This page here)
- cat /etc/motd = News/Heavy Text area (The Dumpstermonkey Forum)
- /usr/bin/users = Users section (this area is for you to look up DM community members)
- ls -aF /main/media = Media section (any kind of media DM has to offer can be found here)
- ln -s /www/links a.out = Links area (a section devoted to useful, or not so useful links)
- /dev/random = Randomness page (no website is complete without a collection of random crap!)
Well, that's it! I hope you find what you are looking for and feel free to come back to visit often!
